City Hosts Elderly Health Workshop

To celebrate the 23rd National Elderly Day (HLUN), the Jakarta Provincial Government becomes a host in an elderly health workshop themed "National Elderly Health Action Plan, Towards Realization of Indonesian Elderly People who are Healthy, Independent, Active and Productive

They are our golden customers that is by giving the best service

This workshop was enlivened by the launch of guidelines for community health centers (puskesmas) in the program of the Long Term Care (PJP) and the practical guide for caregivers in PJP for the elderly.

It was attended by Health Minister, Dr Nila Farid Moeloek; Public Health Direcor General, Kirana Pritasari; as well as representatives of provincial governments from Indonesia, professional organizations, academics, and NGOs observing the elderly.

Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan expressed his grateful for the convening of the workshop regarding the elderly health in Jakarta.

"Thanks God, this is an honor for us to welcome the participants from various regions in the country. This workshop is very important whereby we realize that it is so talking about the elderly. So actually we are talking about the results of human development," he expressed, at Great Hall, Jakarta City Hall as quoted by Jakarta PPID press release, Friday (7/5).

He furthered that the city already has several programs for elderly such as, Jakarta Elderly Card (KLJ). It is given to the underprivileged people through cash for daily needs and health care.

"They are our golden customers that is by giving the best service. They don't need to queue long enough to withdraw funds from the bank, they are surely our priority," he furthered.

In 2017, he explained, the number of elderly people in Indonesia reaches 23 million or 9 percent of total population. It is predicted to increase by Rp 27 million. But it should be grateful as it shows human development that lies in a positive number, or in other words improving life expectancy.

"But now how we manage it well. Without good management, all will run well. Of course, those who are young must be able to prepare a social security system that ensures elderly people still have good welfare," he asserted.

By involving sectors and institutions is expected to be able to compile new innovations in efforts to service the elderly.

"Hopefully this is a warning that we really remember by solving the problem. We must have the steps thus the elderly day is not just a ceremony but meaningful that makes us doing changes in the way to serve and manage them," he closed.
